The Basilica of St. John in Des Moines, IA is a Catholic minor basilica known for its Lombardy Romanesque Revival architecture, dedicated December 4, 1927 and elevated to basilica status on December 31, 1989, by Pope John Paul II. Prior to the construction of a church, a brick school with a temporary chapel was opened, hosting its first Mass on Christmas Day, 1905.
