St. Mary Basilica in Natchez, MS is a Catholic minor basilica known for its Gothic Revival architecture, dedicated September 19, 1886 and elevated to basilica status on September 8, 1998, by Pope John Paul II. Three years after Pope Gregory XVI’s creation of the Diocese of Natchez in 1837, Fr. John Mary Joseph Chanche was appointed its first bishop and was tasked with building a cathedral.
