The Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis in St. Louis, MO is a Catholic minor basilica known for its Byzantine Revival and Romanesque architecture, dedicated October 18, 1914 and elevated to basilica status on April 4, 1997, by Pope John Paul II. Ground was broken May 1, 1907, and six years later the first Mass was celebrated within the unfinished cathedral dedicated to the city’s patron, St. Louis IX of France.
