The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC is a Catholic minor basilica known for its Romanesque-Byzantine architecture, dedicated November 20, 1959 and elevated to basilica status on October 12, 1990, by Pope John Paul II. The shrine joyfully celebrated the first Mass in the crypt church on Easter Sunday 1924.
