The Our Lady of Sorrows Basilica in Chicago, IL is a Catholic minor basilica known for its Italian Renaissance Revival architecture, dedicated January 5, 1902 and elevated to basilica status in 1956 by Pope Pius XII. The friars purchased farmland on the city’s west side, constructed a simple two-story brick church, and celebrated the church’s first Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve of that year.
