The Basilica Abbey of Gethsemani in Trappist, KY is a Catholic minor basilica known for its Cistercian Monastic architecture, dedicated November 15, and elevated to basilica status in 1949 by Pope Pius XII. As the monks settled into their new home, twenty additional monks arrived from France to help the community clear land and construct the first monastery.
