The Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi in Santa Fe, NM is a Catholic minor basilica known for its Romanesque Revival architecture, dedicated 1887 and elevated to basilica status in 2005 by Pope Benedict XVI. As Spanish colonists moved throughout the region, New Mexico became Franciscan missionary territory at the end of the sixteenth century.
