The Basilica Shrine of St. Mary in Wilmington, NC is a Catholic minor basilica known for its Spanish Baroque Revival architecture, dedicated April 12, 1912 and elevated to basilica status in 2013 by Pope Francis. At the beginning of the nineteenth century, when a priest visited Wilmington to celebrate Mass for the small Catholic community, they gathered in private homes and even in Protestant churches.
